Toto, das sind bzw. waren David Paich, Steve Lukather und die Brüder Steve, Mike und Jeff Porcaro, sicher gab es da noch jede Menge andere, besonders die Sänger gaben sich gerne mal die Klinke in die Hand aber diese fünf sind auch nicht eingefleischten Toto Fans ein Begriff. Klaas van der Woude nahm sich ein Herz und fasste mit Africa, Rosanna und Stop Loving you, drei große Hits der Bands zusammen. Nein es sind nicht die drei größten, denn dann hätte statt Stop Loving You eher Hold the Line ins Programm gemusst. Hier liegt dann auch schon der einzige Kritikpunkt an diesem Medley. Es ist nicht die Tatsache das Stop Loving You enthalten ist, sondern das es am Ende kommt, die Energie vom Anfang geht etwas verloren denn wenn man mal ehrlich ist, plätschert das Medley am Ende nur so vor sich hin. Ohne versierten Schlagzeuger ist da auch nicht viel mehr rauszuholen.
Das ist aber meckern auf hohem Niveau, denn das Medley ist toll, besonders für die Musiker im Tiefblech ein wahrer Genuss und der liebe Herr van der Woude hat wirklich super Arbeit geleistet. Es ist trotz der vielen synkopierten Melodien sehr gut spielbar und macht in jeder Phase Lust auf mehr. Wir lassen die Wiederholungen im Großen und Ganzen weg da es sich doch sonst ein bisschen sehr in die Länge zieht.
Eine gut besetzte Percussion Abteilung ist allerdings Pflicht. Congas und Bongos sollten eigentlich schon zwingend dabei sein, (eigentlich deshalb, weil dies bei uns auch nicht immer der Fall ist) weiterhin hat das Xylophon einige Stellen, die sonst nirgends eingeschrieben sind, und auch die restliche Percussion wie Shaker, Schellenring und vor allem die Kuhglocke sind schon sehr wichtig in diesem Stück.
Die Tonumfänge sind mehr als moderat und sollten in allen Registern keinerlei Probleme bereiten. Bei Stop Loving You gibt es einen heiklen Zwischenteil, der technisch etwas anspruchsvoller ist und etwas Feingefühl im Zusammenspiel erfordert. Ansonsten geht das Stück mit einem sicheren Schlagzeuger gut von der Hand.
Von uns, trotz der happigen 110 Euro, eine klare Kaufempfehlung. Das Stück macht einfach nur Laune, steht den Superhitmedleys wie Abba Gold oder Cream of Clapton in keinster Weise was nach und vor allem ist Toto zurzeit (Herbst 2018) wieder total angesagt und Africa und Rosanna sind fast täglich im Radio zu hören. Also ran an die Instrumente und üben. Es lohnt sich.
